Bentonite clays of Navbakhor deposit are fatty to the touch, ceraceous with soap-like consistence, fine dispersed, high-plastic, have no impurities.

The main criterion of the mud powder quality for drilling of oil and gas wells is the yield of the drilling mud out of 1 ton of the mud powder. Other also important characteristics are: fineness of grinding, moisture of mud powder, static shear stress, water loss.

Montmorillonite is prevailed in the mineral composition of bentonite clays, the content of which is more than 50-80 %. As secondary components there are illite and kaolin.

 

There are alkali and alkali-earth natural differences in the deposit which form industrial horizons. Na-cations are prevailed in the exchange complex of alkali bentonite. Therefore they swell highly in the water so that their volume increases to 12-16 times. Alkali- earth bentonites swell less. There are more magnesium cations in their exchange complex.

Carbonate-palygorskit clays of Navbakhor deposit in section overlay bentonite clays. Palygorskit (attapulgite) prevails in their mineral composition. Montmorillonite and calcite are secondary elements.

 

Attapulgit is unique by its oiliness when mixed with salt water giving high effect at the drilling process in complicated sea conditions, for example, in the Caspian sea area.

 

Availability of three varieties of clay at one and the same moment in one deposit significantly expands the area of use of output products from the given mineral raw material.

All the three natural varieties of clay are of high quality. Out of one ton of this clay one can yield 12-16 m3 of boring suspension for drilling of deep and ultra deep oil-and gas wells without preliminary modification by different chemical reagents. Moreover, suspensions of carbonate-palygorskit clays are salt resistant and thermo stable that make them essential at drilling of deep oil and gas wells through the saliferous sedimentations.

Alkali bentonite and carbonate- palygorskit clays of Navbakhor deposit are excellent natural mineral sorbents. They are good for this purpose after simple thermal activation; they do not need ecologically unsafe and expensive chemical activation.

Alkali bentonites can be used for iron ore balling in ferrous metallurgy, as plasticizer in engineering and ceramic industries. Due to high content of Na-ions they can be used in production of detergents and cleansers.

 

All natural varieties of clay are also good for medicine production, goods of perfume industry. In addition, they can be used in general mechanical rubber goods production, vanish-and-paint, paper, textile industry, in treatment of drinking water and industrial wastewater, as active admixture to mixed fodder for animals and poultry. It can be used for increasing of soil fertility, saving of irrigation water and so on.

Three natural varieties of clay extracted at Navbakhor deposit are as follows: alkali, alkali-earth and carbonate-palygorskit (attapulgite). They can be used in more than 200 different spheres of industry:

With 2 percent use of clay from mass the degree of bleaching is 55 %, and oil absorption is 35 %. At this acid number of base oil significantly decreases.

Due to the conclusion of the State enterprise of scientific production center Uranium geology and rare earth metals (former state enterprise Kiziltepageology) all three varieties of bentonite for radioactive safety can be referred to the first class material and can be used in industrial and household spheres without limitation.
